You’ve probably heard the phrase “seeing the world through rose-colored glasses.” It’s a nice metaphor for optimism… until you realize it applies to everything we believe. Because none of us, not one, sees the world as it actually is. We see it through filters—lenses shaped by our upbringing, culture, fears, hopes, and, yes… our faith.
This bonus episode of Afterthoughts is one that I’ve put together for all of those people who still cling to their religious beliefs. I’m not trying to be judgmental, I simply hope to help them actively engage with the faith they claim to hold.
You see, the problem is that when a belief system becomes our main or only filter, we stop seeing the world as it is and start seeing it only as we’ve been told it is. And that’s where things can go terribly wrong; not just in religion, but in politics, media, and daily life.
In this episode, we’re going to talk about what happens when faith becomes a filter, how belief systems shape our perception of reality, and how we can use three foundational human values — integrity, curiosity, and fairness — to see more clearly.
So, if you’re ready, let’s dive into this bonus episode of Afterthoughts!
