As many of you already know, I am no longer able to use my prior webinar platform, so the Mythologizing the Bible webinars will now be live streamed on Twitch.tv. My channel is theCODAproject. Instructions for joining Twitch and watching the webinar are below but let me explain a few things first.
Twitch is a free live streaming service, which means that you are likely to be required to watch an ad or two when you first try to watch the live stream. As such, I will begin each Thursday night stream with some casual commentary before going into the formal presentation. That way, if you’re stuck watching ads for a minute or two, you won’t miss the core content. (Of course, you can certainly join a couple minutes early if you’d prefer.)
Twitch is open to the public, which means that anyone who is browsing the platform could find the stream and join. Chat is open to anyone, so people may comment or ask questions. I won’t interrupt the formal MTB presentation, but I will try to interact with people who chime in via chat.
You can watch the live stream without creating a Twitch account. However, if you want to “follow” the channel and receive automatic notifications, then you will need to create an account, which I’ll explain below. I encourage you to do this. It’s free, easy to do, and will make it easier for me to keep in touch with you.
INSTRUCTIONS for Joining TWITCH & Watching the LIVE STREAM
Go to https://www.twitch.tv/thecodaproject and select the purple “Follow” button. A pop-up window will appear.
In the pop-up window, select a username and password. (Hint: It’s best to choose a username that isn’t your real name, unless you want everyone to know who you are. Most folks on Twitch use nicknames.)
You will need to provide your date of birth and either a phone number or email address for verification (I recommend using email).
Once you have completed the necessary fields, the “Sign Up” button will become available. Click it and the system will send you a 6-digit verification code. Enter the 6-digit number into the appropriate fields and submit. This should set up your Twitch account and automatically “follow” my channel.
Make sure that you select the purple bell to “Turn on Notifications,” so you won’t miss any live streams!
As I said, you can watch the live stream without setting up a Twitch account, but you will need to remember to find the channel every time you want to watch. If you set up an account and follow the channel, you will receive a link to the live stream when it’s time to join. Easy peasy!
I am also going to experiment with live streaming on Monday nights at 9 PM. At first, I will focus on expanding on the lessons and messages from the prior Thursday’s MTB presentation, but I may expand into other related topics in the future. We’ll have to see how it goes.
Thank you for your support and I hope you can make it tonight at 9 PM to watch Mythologizing the Bible for the 3rd Sunday in Advent (Cycle C)!
