Confidence Isn’t Truth

MTB Ep. 50: 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time (Cycle C)

It’s easy to follow the loudest voices, especially when they sound confident. But confidence without truth is dangerous. This week, we’re exploring how faith, politics, and misinformation collide… and how real courage means questioning what we hear, defending what’s true, and speaking out with calm conviction when silence would be easier.

Have you ever noticed how easy it is for people to mistake confidence for truth? The loudest voices in our world—whether political, religious, or online—often sound so sure of themselves that we stop questioning what they’re saying. And yet, that’s exactly when we should be asking the hardest questions.

Welcome to Mythologizing the Bible, where we’ll be taking a look at three readings from the Christian Bible through the lens of “sacred myth.”

As we reflect on the readings for the 32nd Sunday in Ordinary Time, Cycle C, we’ll explore how faith and belief can either inspire thoughtful courage or become a shield for bad ideas and how silence, in the face of false certainty, allows harmful ideologies to take root.

In this episode, we’re asking an honest question: What does it mean to live with integrity in an age of misinformation? Because real faith, whether religious or secular, isn’t about believing harder; it’s about thinking deeper, questioning more honestly, and speaking up with confidence that’s grounded in truth.
