Why We Mistake Confidence for Truth

MTB Ep. 50: "Afterthoughts"

You’ve probably noticed it — the louder someone is, the more certain they sound, and (unfortunately) the more people tend to believe them. Whether it’s on cable news, TikTok, or behind a pulpit, confidence gets mistaken for credibility all the time. And the truth is, that’s not a new problem. It’s one of the oldest human habits: confusing volume for value, certainty for wisdom, and charisma for truth!

Today, we’re going to talk about why we fall for confident voices — even when they’re wrong — and how we can retrain ourselves to think more critically, stay curious, and build confidence that’s grounded in integrity rather than ego.

Because the issue isn’t just that loud people mislead others. The real danger is that thoughtful, empathetic people stop speaking up; they start doubting themselves, thinking, “Well, maybe they ARE right… they sound so sure.”

SO… if you’re ready, let’s dive into this week’s episode of Afterthoughts and see if we can fix some of that!
